7 Quick Takes Friday (11)

Welcome to Week 11 of 7 Quick Takes Friday. Please be sure to visit Jennifer's blog and check out her post and then scroll down to see the ones fellow bloggers have linked.

Today's Theme:
Bloggy Type Stuff I Seriously Need To Work On and/or Have Been Contemplating

1. Figuring out how to get the logos for blog hops to appear correctly in my posts. Usually they start out just fine, but then a few days later I'll go back and look at a post and they have mysteriously morphed into the dreaded Blue Box With Question Mark. What's up with that? Can you, dear reader, even see the cute little graphic at the top of this post?

2. Finding my navigation bar. You know, that thingy at the top of Blogger blogs that says dashboard, next blog, previous blog, and . . . oh, "follow" . . . it seems to be MIA. Which leads me to . . .

3. I added a Follow Me "gadget" to my sidebar . . . and sadly it lists only TWO people. I would like to think this directly relates to #2, and I just made it too difficult to follow by not having a cool and easy button at the top of the blog. Or maybe no one cares. However . . .

4. I now have over 100 "likes" on my Facebook page. Yeah!

5. My About Me section could use some work. I had a whole page reworked a few weeks ago, but then deleted most of it because it seemed corny. Right now it's pretty bland. Go ahead and check it out and tell me what you think. Do you know of any really good examples from other blogs you could share?

6. I really hate some of my oldest posts (pretty much all of 2010). Fellow bloggers, have you ever gone back and edited or deleted older posts? Some of them are just awful. I'm tempted to do some cleaning out. Or perhaps I'll start reposting them for Snark Week.

7. This may or may not surprise those of you who know me personally, but . . . my husband does not know this blog exists. It's not like I set out to keep it from him, I just never brought it up. I think I should let him know and then blog about our discussion. Thoughts?

Thanks for reading and have a blessed day.

  1. 6. I go back and fix out the layout as I'm a little more techno savvy now (a little;)

    7. Most interested to read his response. My dh is my biggest fan (checks a few times a day to see if I've posted anything new, can't imagine how he things I will find the time then) I love having his support.

  2. The layout of older posts could probably use some work as well. And I hardly ever used photos, so they look very blah. I may go back and revisit them and see if I can fashion some "new" posts out of them. Some of the topics are okay, but I'm afraid they come across as dull, condescending, snarky, or all of the above. Sigh. I would like to think my writing and focus has improved considerably in the last year.

  3. i've been blogging for 11 years and i don't delete my archives -- they were a reflection of where i was at that particular time and it's interesting to look back and see how i've changed in that time.

as for your "about" page, those are the most impossible things to write. i've done the "100 things about me" thing on one of my blogs and i've tweaked mine insanely. all i can say is to go through the quick takes blogs and find one you like. :)

  4. I am reading this on Saturday night and can still see the Quick Takes logo, if that helps :)

And I don't really understand the "Following" thing, because I thought I was following you--I read your blog in my Google reader--but I am not on your list. So I don't know if that is my fault or the tool's!

How funny that your husband doesn't know about the blog! My husband has never read my blog, but then he doesn't understand the point of reading or writing blogs anyway.

  5. Jen, I think I will have to go check out your blog and some of the archives. Eleven years! Wow! I see your quick takes mention NaNoWriMo . . . I keep thinking that some year I'll do that. Perhaps when the Agents are in college. :-)

  6. Amy, thanks for letting me know about the logo. I think I may have figured it out; we'll see if I can do it again next week.
Maybe Google reader is separate from Google Friend Connect? I have had others tell me the same thing . . . I think there are just too many options for "following" someone. I usually just post links on my Facebook page; I think that's where most folks find it. I may just remove it from the sidebar. Hmm . . .
