Momma Is a Babywearing Failure (Lucky You!)

Giveaway Day Update, Thursday 1 March: Sharing this with friends at Hip Homeschool Moms for their giveaway day! Stop by and check out the other bloggers linked there, and show them some love.

One of the "confessions" I made earlier this week is my failure at babywearing. Actually, I wouldn't even consider it a failure with Agents E and J so much as an off the radar indifference

It didn't even occur to me as a feasible option, to tell you the truth, even though by the time Eva turned a few weeks old I pretty much had gotten on board with the whole attachment parenting thing and had read extensively about babywearing. Yet it still seemed a bit too, dare I say it, crunchy for me then. So I passed.

While pregnant with Agent A, I reconsidered the idea, poring over information on using nurturing touch and the benefits of babywearing. After more debate and research, I purchased a Moby wrap. I wanted so much to love this sling. I really did. But I didn't.

I couldn't make it work, although I put in gallant effort. I could barely keep A in there, let alone breastfeed wearing it. Of the few times I did manage to put him in it, I think I only left my living room twice. I don't believe the wrap caused the difficulty. I am 100% convinced the cause is/was user error. Eventually I gave up, and now A is nearly 16 months old and there's no going back.

Warning: You may not be able to extract it from this bag
Anyway, after letting it take up some guilt-inducing space on a shelf in my living room for a long while, I washed it, dried it, and folded it back up into that impossibly small sack thingy it came in. And that's where it's been (now housed in my bedroom closet) ever since. It's time to let it go.

That's where you come in, dear reader. I am giving it away to someone who can make use of it. Allow me to obsessively reiterate: This is not a brand new wrap, but very gently used . . . one that I wore 5 or 6 times at most and is in excellent condition. And did I mention it is free?

Leave a comment on this post and I will choose a winner at random from all the comments received between now and Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. local time. (That would be midnight Thursday for my east coast friends.) If you know someone who may be interested, please share this with them.

Thanks for reading and have a blessed day.

  2. Glad to know I'm not the only one who isn't completely 'crunchy!' :) Sometimes it's just a matter of finding what works/is best for your family

  4. So kind of you to give this away! I refused to babyeear with my firstborn. Just wasn't for us. When my second came along my husband was deployed. I needed to babywear so that I was free to chase my very active 3 year old. Now that number three is here, I am again choosing to babywear. I have heard great things about a Moby and would love to give it a go. Good luck to all!

  5. Yeah I hated that stinkin' moby!! Produced so much anxiety for me I don't know how I managed to stay out of the mental institution (Oh yeah... Zoloft! That was why!). I just say "No, I'm not a baby wearer, I'm a baby holder" Haha I just... *hold the baby*.... hehe! Although I do love my Ergo and the little guy tolerates it from time to time.

  6. I would love to win one. I think it is great that you at least gave it a try. I have worn my babies in the past, but not so much with my youngest. I would love to try this sort of wrap, as I have really only used a ring sling and a mei-tei self-styled carrier in the past. Thank you for the chance!
