Linking this up with Top Ten {Tuesday}, hosted each week by Angie at Many Little Blessings.
Few things get parents on opposite ends of the discipline spectrum riled up like spanking. If you've followed this blog for more than five minutes, you probably know how I feel about the issue. Today I'm sharing ten resources that address some of the common misconceptions about spanking.
First, a few questions:
- Do you know many countries have outlawed corporal punishment of children at home and at school?
- Are you aware we don't use corporal punishment on prisoners (see Standard 23-4.3, Disciplinary Sanctions)?
- Have you heard of the Spencer Spanking Plan? Go ahead and read this now and come back and tell me at what point your jaw fell to the ground.
And now, some food for thought from a few of my favorite gentle parenting advocates:
(from Aha! Parenting)
2. So I Hit Him
(from The Path Less Taken)
(from Ask Dr. Sears)
(from The Hippie Housewife)
(from Dulce de Leche)
(from Parenting Science)
Children do not deserve to be hit. Ever.
There is always a better way.
Thank you for reading and have a blessed day.

Yes, jaw hit ground.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. Thanks for the list.
ReplyDeleteAgree agree agree! I was spanked, and all it taught me was to think of my mom as someone who I needed to be afraid of when I make a mistake. Instead of, you know, someone I could go to when I made a mistake!
